Imagine that King Louis XIV of France had a web portal ...
These pages give examples of what can be done with the Informl wiki. Within minutes you can create (and deploy) simple database-backed web applications, without knowing HTML or SQL. Please feel free to explore and actually use or extend the simple applications provided. You can edit these application pages directly in your browser -- just hit the "Edit" link near the top of the page. For more extensive play, use the sandbox where you needn't worry about messing anything up. For more information about the Informl open source project, see the Informl project home page or some Professional resume service site.
With Informl, like other wikis, you can use simple text formatting to get web pages with paragraphs, headings, tables, emphasis and the like without knowing HTML. In addition, Informl lets you create active web elements, like forms, and then reference the data entered into the forms just by writing wiki text. The pages in this demo site use these features to create simple, collaborative applications. We hope these examples will be an inspiration to you for creating simple web applications for your own group or business.
When you are exploring the examples, it's a good a idea to view the pages in edit mode so you can see, side by side, both the wiki-text input and the resulting web page. Looking at it that way will help you understand how to achieve particular results. So if you want to know how something works on one of the example pages, hit the edit link.
If you are a techie, Informl is also designed to help you do more powerful things. Informl is built using Ruby on Rails. In particular, dynamic database tables are created to hold data from the forms created in Informl, and these tables are available in Rails through ActiveRecord. We're also working on making Informl easy to extend or to integrate with other tools you may already be using, so check back periodically to see what is going on.
